What is the Injuries Resolution Board?
The Injuries Resolution Board is an independent organisation established by law that deals with personal injury claims. All personal injury claims in Ireland, except for medical negligence claims, must be submitted to the Injuries Resolution Board.
The Injuries Resulution Board reviews each individual case and assesses the compensation due to a person in light of the Personal Injuries Guidelines. It takes the Injuries Resulution Board approximately 9 months to review each case and issue an assessment. In certain cases the Injuries Resulution Board might extend this period by a further 6 month period. The Injuries Resulution Board can also refuse to assess an application if the case is very complex and a definite future prognosis cannot be given within 9/15 month period from the time of the application.
If a claim is rejected by the Injuries Resulution Board then the next step is to commence court proceedings.
The Injuries Resolution Board (IRB) was formerly known as the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB)
