Pat Ahearne, a 65-year-old carpenter was driving along Ormond Quay Lower in his van when the traffic backed up. He stopped the van. However, the driver of the Toyota Avensis behind him didn’t react in time and went into the back of Pat’s van. The damage to the rear bumper and the other side of the van was approximately €1,200. Pat went to his GP the following day, with pain in his neck and shoulders. He was out of work for one week. The Insurance company offered €10,000 to settle the matter. However, this was rejected. The matter went into the Injuries Board and they assessed his injuries at €12,500. This was declined and court proceedings were issued. However, this matter was settled outside court for €17,000. The amount reflected the injuries he sustained and the medical reports of the doctors. All in all, the client was happy with the result.
