Licensing law and licensing issues

When things go wrong and will not come right,
Though you do the best you can,
When life looks black as the hour of night –
A pint of plain is your only man.

Licensing law and licensing issues

Licensing Law in Ireland is a specialised area. The law is fragmented with hundreds of pieces of legislation, many dating back to the Victorian era.

We at Griffin Solicitors have for over 20 years advised in relation to all types of licensing matters. As an example we have acted for a large retailer who applied for new mixed use off licences in all its stores. This involved buying in and extinguishing licences from all parts of the country, and applying to the District Court for a new off licence based on suitability and planning. We have also advised on objecting to the granting of new off-licenses in both the District and Circuit Courts involving the character of the applicant, the wants and needs of the neighbourhood and the discretion of the Court.
